About
About this procedure
Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that occur together, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. The main components are: a large waistline; high triglycerides or use of lipid-lowering medications; low HDL or use of lipid-lowering medications; high blood pressure or use of medication for it; and high blood sugar or use of medication for it. When two or more of these factors are present, the person is said to have metabolic syndrome.
People with obesity have a very high risk of developing metabolic syndrome, and those with metabolic syndrome have a significantly higher risk of heart disease and diabetes. Metabolic surgery, using bariatric procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass, can lead to significant improvement or remission of type 2 diabetes and other metabolic parameters. The focus is not only on weight loss but on improving blood sugar, lipids, and blood pressure. At Metabariatrics we work closely with your physician and offer comprehensive metabolic surgery care in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai as part of our bariatric surgery programme.
Recovery
Recovery after metabolic surgery
- 1Similar to standard bariatric procedures; hospital stay 1–3 days.
- 2Diabetes medications often reduced or stopped early; must be supervised.
- 3Regular blood sugar and HbA1c checks; ongoing coordination with your physician.
- 4Lifelong vitamins and healthy lifestyle for sustained metabolic benefit.
